How do I access details of a 30 year old Federal court case in Maryland?

I'm trying to unravel a family mystery. A relative was convicted of attempted murder, or accessory to attempted murder and we would like to know any details of the case or newspaper articles about the case. The relative lived in Baltimore, Maryland and committed the crime there. How do I access details of a 30 year old Federal court case in Maryland?
Federal case, you say? No doubt it was tried in the U.S. District Court District of Maryland, specifically the Baltimore Division.

Baltimore Division

101 W. Lombard Street

Baltimore, MD 2120

(410) 962-2600

You should call the clerk first and see what they can tell you. Their helpful and can search for it. You likely with have to go in person to retrieve documents, unless you pay them to make copies and mail them.

It may be that the case was archived due to being so old. In that case, they will tell you where to look.

Are you certain it was Federal? If it was not, then you need to call the local State court (the Circuit Court for Baltimore City to be exact) since they would handle a murder case.
