What cases do federal prosecutors preside over?

..I guess the question is what would be a federal case?

Whats the diffrence between a state case and a federal case I think I'm trying to ask. What cases do federal prosecutors preside over?
Federal government cases....bank robbery, as aposed to a 7-11What cases do federal prosecutors preside over?
Federal cases usually involve crimes that cross state lines or country borders. For example, someone trying to smuggle illegal aliens into the U.S. would be prosecuted Federally. If you have a serial killer who is killing people in multiple states, that person may be prosecuted Federally when caught. Notice the word ';may.'; In many cases, the FBI will help with the investigation but the serial killer will be prosecuted in one of the states where he/she commited an act of murder. Some other examples of Federally prosecuted cases are: crimes involving the illegal trafficking of alcohol, drugs, firearms, or tobacco; child porn (but not in all cases), and crimes committed on military installations.
